There are three units within Building Safety, each headed by a Chief Inspector.

• Mechanical Inspections
• Electrical Inspections
Building Safety inspects construction and trades-related activities to ensure that secure, sustainable structures and installations are completed and that safety codes applied during the course of building and installation meet the National minimum standards. The unit issues a variety of permits and licences to support interests that include: development; building; plumbing; electrical; boiler and pressure vessels; gas; and elevating devices.
Building and Plumbing Inspectors review the plans for new construction, perform inspections and issue permits throughout Yukon, with the exception of Whitehorse. Within the City of Whitehorse please contact The City of Whitehorse - Building Inspection Department

Electrical Inspectors review plans for electrical installations while Mechanical Inspectors review plans for boiler, elevator and gas installations. These inspectors also perform inspections and issue permits throughout Yukon including Whitehorse.
