Emergency Medical Services

Volunteering with Emergency Medical Services

EMS volunteers provide pre-hospital medical treatment and transportation in Yukon communities, including after-hours crews in Watson Lake and Dawson City.

Volunteers must: 

  • pass a vulnerable sector record check through the RCMP (fee waived for volunteers)
  • be capable of lifting patients and equipment, with assistance
  • attend weeknight training sessions twice a month
  • be 18 years of age or older

When on call, responding to an incident and attending official meetings and training, volunteers receive honoraria payments.

Volunteers will qualify as Emergency Responders with training in: 

  • Standard First Aid (SFA)
  • Emergency Medical Responder Certificate
  • CPR for health care providers (CPR-HCP)
  • Class IV Driver’s Licence
