The Office of the Superintendent of Insurance comes under the Professional Licensing & Regulatory Affairs Branch. To protect consumers the office licenses insurance companies and monitors their financial status and business practices. Issues such as requests for licensure are reviewed and approved or denied by the Superintendent. The office also licenses the intermediaries such as agents, brokers and salespersons and may investigate complaints against them.
To interpret or apply the legislation, the Insurance Act and Regulations should be consulted.
