The Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (JEPP) encourages emergency preparedness projects that support national objectives and priorities in emergency preparedness throughout Canada.
Through JEPP, the Government of Canada provides financial contributions to provinces and territories to assist in meeting the costs of projects aimed at enhancing the national emergency response capability.
The program is administered by the Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada (PSEPC), and works toward co-operative emergency responsibilities in all parts of Canada.
The federal government will normally contribute up to 50% of a project's cost. Applicants are expected to have other sources of funding for their projects. JEPP funds will be directed to projects with the highest emergency response pay-off.
Funding is available to territorial governments, incorporated municipalities and First Nations. To be eligible, municipalities and First Nations must have an emergency by-law in place and an operational emergency plan. Those without an emergency by-law in place may still be eligible as long as the applicant includes the formulation of an emergency plan in their application. First Nations and municipalities are encouraged to contact EMO for further information and for assistance with JEPP applications.
The following projects are eligible for JEPP funding and are listed in order of priority:
Emergency plans - or updating emergency plans; Emergency exercises - to test emergency plans; Training and education; Telecommunications systems; Specialized vehicles and equipment; and Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) equipping of fixed or mobile EOCs and minor modifications to buildings or rooms to accommodate fixed EOCs.
Annual Funding Deadline: December 1st
JEPP is not a legislated program but is operated in accordance with federal Treasury Board approved guidelines and is therefore subject to cancellation at any time.
