Emergency Planning Information

Each year, thousands of Canadian families face emergency situations that could change their lives forever.

Don't be caught off guard, learn how to plan for emergencies, assemble an emergency kit, and always be prepared.

Get Prepared!

72 HOURS - Is your family prepared?

MAKE A PLAN
Every Canadian household needs an emergency plan. It only takes 20 minutes to make one and will provide valuable tools to you and your family in the case of an emergency.

MAKE COPIES OF IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS
These include birth and marriage certificates, passports, licenses, wills, land deeds and insurance.

PLAN FOR YOUR PETS
In case of an evacuation, remember that pets are not always allowed in some public shelters or hotels because of certain health regulations. Prepare to take your pets with you to the home of a relative or friend or a pet-friendly hotel.

SPECIAL HEALTH NEEDS
Ensure friends, relatives, co-workers and health care providers understand your special health needs.
This list should include allergies, family medical history, medical conditions, recent vaccinations and emergency contacts.

EMERGENCY CONTACT
Choose a person that lives far enough away that they won’t be impacted by the same emergency.

SAFE HOME INSTRUCTIONS
Make sure you have a working carbon monoxide detector, smoke alarm, fire extinguisher and well-stocked first aid kit. If you live in an apartment know where the fire alarms and emergency exits are located.
