Multiple Lightning Fires Reported in Central Yukon Friday

There were eleven new fires reported in the past 24 hours, all caused by lightning.

 50 hectares  Thought to be a holdover fire from 2004 (DA#26)There is a mining camp four kms. from the fire; crews assessed the fire and deployed site protection. Camp is not being threatened at this time.

 1 hectare  Fire is surrounded by an old burn and the Yukon River. WFM will continue to monitor this fire.

 4.5 hectares  South of Ethel Lake, WFM responded to fire with initial attack crews, helicopter and airtanker support. There are several trappers cabins in the area.

 200 hectares  Fire is being monitored. Fire is 25 mi. away from Barlow microwave tower. A structure protection plan will be put in place if necessary.

 2.0 hectares  Initial attack crews and airtankers responded to the fire on June 30. The fire received some precipitation overnight and crews are working on the fire again today with helicopter support. The fire is currently being held and is not threatening any values.

 47,000hectares  Was monitored by a patrol plane yesterday afternoon.  Fire has burnt over the Dempster Highway, 30 km. south of Eagle Plains Lodge. Travelers advised of possible delays due to smoke from fire activity between the Ogilvie River and Eagle Plains. The fire is being assessed by a fixed wing patrol today.

 5800 hectares  Fire crews continuing working on northwest portion of the fire which has shown minimal growth. The fire remains contained within the perimeter.  No immediate threat to any values. 
 Moose Creek

 300 hectares  Fire was assessed yesterday and is burning to the northwest. Site protection has been deployed to two mining camps in the area of the fire. There is no immediate threat to the Little Gold Customs Station or the Top of the World Highway.

 4.1 hectares  The fire was scanned this morning and crews will continue to work on the fire today. There is no threat to any values in the area.
