Moderate Fire Activity Canada Day Weekend

There were no new fires reported since Friday.  There were over 4500 lightning strikes in central and southern Yukon on Saturday.  Weather conditions in central and northern Yukon have been cooler with moister conditions that have moderated fire activity over the last two days. Similar conditions are expected for the next few days. The fire danger rating is LOW throughout the Territory today, with the exception of Carmacks which is at MODERATE.

 Fire crews continuing working on northwest portion of the fire which has shown minimal growth. The fire remains contained within the perimeter.   No immediate threat to any values.

 Fire has received precipitation and shown little activity over the last two days. Site protection was deployed to two mining camps in the area of the fire and they are not at risk. There is no immediate threat to the Little Gold Customs Station or the Top of the World Highway.

 4.1 hectares Start Date: June 28, 2005  The fire has been scanned and no visible smoke has been detected. Crews and equipment came off the fire on Sunday.
