Moderate Fire Activity Canada Day Weekend

There were no new fires reported since Friday. There were over 4500 lightning strikes in central and southern Yukon on Saturday. Weather conditions in central and northern Yukon have been cooler with moister conditions that have moderated fire activity over the last two days. Similar conditions are expected for the next few days. The fire danger rating is LOW throughout the Territory today, with the exception of Carmacks which is at MODERATE.

Freegold Road CA#10 Critical Fire Management Zone	0.5 hectares Start Date: July 1, 2005	The Little Salmon Carmacks First Nation crew responded to the fire with helicopter support. Fire has been declared out.
Ptarmigan Hill CA#11 Full Management Zone	0.02 hectares Start Date: July 1, 2005	Fire received 11.8 mm of rain. Crews monitored the fire and it is now declared out.
Penape Lake MA#08 Wilderness Zone	0.5 hectares Start Date: July 1, 2005	Fire is being monitored.
North Canol-20 km S. of Twin Creeks RR#2 Wilderness Zone	10 hectares Start Date: July 1, 2005	The fire is being monitored. There are no values being threatened by the fire at this time.
McClintock Lk. XY#8 Full Management Zone	0.2 hectares Start Date: July 1, 2005	Initial attack crews responded to the fire with airtanker and helicopter support. The fire has been declared out.

Sestak Creek DA#17 Wilderness Zone	100 hectares Start Date: June 30, 2005	Fire is being monitored.
25 Mi. NW of Clear Cr. Rd. MA#07	200 hectares Start Date: June 30, 2005	Fire is being monitored. Fire is 25 mi. away from Barlow microwave tower. A structure protection plan will be put in place if necessary.
Jackfish Lake RR#01 Full Management Zone	2.0 hectares Start Date: June 30, 2005	Initial attack crews and airtankers responded to the fire on June 30. The fire has been patrolled and has been declared under control.
60 Mile R. at 10 mi. Creek DA#15 Wilderness Zone	50 hectare Start Date: June 30, 2005	Thought to be a holdover fire from 2004 (DA#26) There is a mining camp four kms. from the fire; crews assessed the fire and deployed site protection. Camp is not being threatened at this time.
Lucky Joe Creek DA#16 Wilderness Zone	1 hectares Start Date: June 30, 2005	Fire is surrounded by an old burn and the Yukon River. WFM will continue to monitor this fire.
Three Mile Rapids MA#04 Strategic Zone	4.5 hectares Start Date: June 30, 2005	South of Ethel Lake, WFM responded to fire with initial attack crews, helicopter and airtanker support. Crews are currently mopping up this fire.
Vancouver Creek MA#05 Transitional Zone	150 hectares Start Date: June 30, 2005	WFM has assessed the fire for values at risk and is continuing to monitor it.
Willow HIlls MA#06 Wilderness Zone	0.5 hectares Start Date: June 30, 2005	WFM responded to fire with initial attack crews, airtankers. Initial attack was successful and crews have pulled off the fire. The fire has been patrolled and has been declared out.
Yukon Crossing CA#09 Full Management Zone	Spot Start Date: June 30, 2005	WFM responded with initial attack crews who extinguished the fire July 3.
20 km. N. of Barney Lake WL#05 Strategic Zone	0.1 hectare Start Date: June 30, 2005	Initial attack crews responded to the fire with helicopter support and the fire has been declared out.
Liard R. near Tom Creek WL#06 Full Management Zone	0.01 Hectare Start Date: June 30, 2005	Initial attack crews responded to the fire with helicopter support, and the fire has been declared out.
Dalglish Creek DA#07 Wilderness Zone	47,000hectares Start Date: June 17, 2005	Fire has burnt over the Dempster Highway, 30 km. south of Eagle Plains Lodge. Travelers advised of possible delays due to smoke from fire activity between the Ogilvie River and Eagle Plains. The fire is being monitored.
Shanghai Fire MA#01 Transitional Zone	5800 hectares Start Date: June 14, 2005	Fire crews continuing working on northwest portion of the fire which has shown minimal growth. The fire remains contained within the perimeter. No immediate threat to any values.
Moose Creek DA#13 Strategic Zone	300 hectares Start Date: June 28 , 2005	Fire has received precipitation and shown little activity over the last two days. Site protection was deployed to two mining camps in the area of the fire and they are not at risk. There is no immediate threat to the Little Gold Customs Station or the Top of the World Highway.
French Gulch DA#14 Full Management Zone	4.1 hectares Start Date: June 28, 2005	The fire has been scanned and no visible smoke has been detected. Crews and equipment came off the fire on Sunday.
