Holdover Fire Actioned in Carmacks District

Wildland Fire Management (WFM) responded to a holdover fire this weekend burning in the Carmacks district.  The 0.1 hectare fire is in WFM’s Transitional Zone by Mandana Lake.  The fire was actioned by an airtanker group on Saturday, and was also worked on by an initial attack crew the following day.  Fire crews have secured the perimeter of the fire, and it is now under observation.  There are no values at risk from this fire.

In other news, fire crews carried out site protection on values in the vicinity of two fires in the Dawson district.  Three residences by the Boundary Creek fire, or Dawson #19, underwent site protection on the weekend.  This fire is in the Wilderness Zone, and is burning across the Yukon/Alaska border.  Site protection was also carried out on a mining camp near the Moose Creek fire (Dawson #13) this weekend.  The Moose Creek fire is 7600 hectares.  Both of these fires will continue to be monitored by WFM.

Temperatures will be cool across the territory this week, with thundershowers in southern Yukon, and as a result fire danger ratings are expected to be LOW to MODERATE for the next few days.  WFM would like to remind the public that burning permit guidelines must always be followed, and even when fire danger ratings are LOW it is still very important to be cautious when burning.

There have been 73 fires this season burning approximately 123,000 hectares.
