Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #33 July 19, 2005 - 9:30 AM Yukon Crews to Assist Ontario Wildland fire fighting crews from Yukon are being sent to Ontario to help with firefighting efforts there. The province has requested additional resources as a result of increased fire activity in recent days. On Wednesday, eight 1x3 Initial Attack crews and an agency representative from the Territory will be deployed to Sudbury, Ontario. Yukon firefighters will join firefighters from other agencies across the country under the Mutual Aid Resources Sharing (MARS) agreement managed through CIFFC, the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre. Last summer, firefighters from across Canada assisted Yukon during the Territory’s extraordinary fire season under the same agreement. The fire danger rating in the Territory is currently low to moderate because of cool, showery weather during the past few days. Cool conditions are expected to continue for the next week and enable Wildland Fire Management officials to confidently offer assistance to other provinces. Sufficient resources remain in the Territory should fire activity increase. Wildland Fire Management would like to remind the public that burning permit guidelines must always be followed, and even when fire danger ratings are LOW it is still very important to be cautious when burning. There have been 73 fires this season burning approximately 123,000 hectares. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
