Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #35 July 25, 2005 - 9:30 AM No New Fires on Weekend Yukon fire crews assisting Ontario with their fires have been relocated to Armstrong, Ontario, which is north of Thunder Bay. The eight 1×3 initial attack fire crews have been assisting with initial attack in Wawa, Ontario since July 20. So far they have helped to extinguish several Ontario fires. There were no new fire starts during the weekend; however, fire activity increased on Dawson 19, the Boundary Creek fire, which is in Yukon and Alaska. As a result, the fire moved within three kilometres of values on the Yukon side, and fire fighters prepared sprinkler units on the values as a precaution. There is no immediate threat at this time and the fire will continue to be monitored. The Alaska Fire Service completed a successful burnout operation on the west portion of the Boundary Creek fire on the Alaskan side on the weekend. Alaskan fire crews have been continually fighting this fire which is burning south of Eagle and Eagle Village, Alaska. Those traveling through Alaska on the Taylor Highway may encounter smoky conditions around mile 140 and mile 150. Due to new fire starts in Alaska, and increased fire activity on other Alaska fires, people in the Beaver Creek and Dawson area may also notice smoky conditions. There have been 77 fires this season burning approximately 134,000 hectares. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
