Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #37 July 26, 2005 - 2:30 PM Dempster Highway Temporarily Closed Due To Forest Fire MODIS, the fire detection satellite, showed a new 1400 hectare fire 50 kilometres south of Eagle Plains. The fire is burning near the Dempster Highway. The Department of Highways and Public Works has temporarily closed a portion of the Dempster Highway between km 319 and km 321 due to heavy smoke and reduced visibility. Highways and Public Works personnel are on site. It is anticipated that this portion of the Dempster Highway will reopen in the next few hours. Fire activity on Dawson 7, the Dalglish fire, has increased over the last couple of days. Thirty kilometres south of Eagle Plains, this Wilderness Zone fire is currently burning by the Dempster Highway. Travelers may encounter smoky conditions and reduced visibility between km 330 and km 348. The best time to travel on the Dempster Highway is in the early morning when fire activity is low.
