Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #38 July 27, 2005 - 10:00 AM Dempster Highway Reopens after Temporary Closure from Forest Fire As a result of forest fire activity, the Dempster Highway was temporarily closed between km 319 and km 321 yesterday afternoon, but has since reopened. Travelers may encounter smoky conditions and reduced visibility between km 320 and km 348. Due to changing conditions, the Department of Highways and Public Works is advising travelers to be prepared for possible delays. The best time to travel on the Dempster Highway is in the early morning when fire activity is low. For current information on highway conditions call Highways and Public Works at 1-877-456-7623. In other news, the eight 1×3 Yukon crews that are in Ontario have been deployed to two new fires in the Thunderbay area. Most of the crews have actioned around two to three fires each. The temperature in Ontario continues to be warm and dry, and there have been new 45 fires in the last 24 hours, 21 of them human-caused and the rest lightning-caused. The Yukon crews are expected to return to the Yukon in about a week.
