Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #39 July 28, 2005 - 10:30 AM WFM Sends Representative to Eagle Plains Area Wildland Fire Management (WFM) is sending a representative to monitor fire activity in the Eagle Plains area. The fires will be monitored regularly, especially in the area of the Dempster Highway, using patrol aircraft and by driving the highway. Fire activity south of Eagle Plains has increased in the past few days. Dawson 7, the Dalglish fire, has been burning by the Dempster Highway between km 320 and km 348. Travelers are advised that there may be reduced visibility and smoke from forest fire activity in that area. The best time to travel on the Dempster Highway is in the early morning when fire activity is low. For current information on highway conditions call Highways and Public Works at 1-877-456-7623. If there are any questions about the status of the fires by the Dempster, please call the Eagle Plains Hotel at 1-867-993-2453 and ask to speak to Wildland Fire Management’s representative or leave a detailed message. In the meantime, the Yukon crews that were sent to Ontario are continuing to work on two fires north of Thunder Bay. One is approximately 630 hectares and the other 1370 hectares. Both fires have received precipitation and are currently showing low fire activity. There are eight 1×3 initial attack crews in Ontario, but two Yukon firefighters have since been promoted to Sector Leaders, managing larger crews. The Yukon crews will be returning home August 3. There have been 77 fires this season burning approximately 158,000 hectares. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
