Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #DAWSON FIRE UPDATE July 15, 2004 - 12:00 PM UPDATE ON DAWSON FIRE SITUATION There is no immediate threat to the City of Dawson from the fire activity. Dawson City Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) and community officials have an evacuation plan in place and are planning for all possibilities should the fire situation change due to changing winds and weather conditions. This type of preparedness planning is standard when the community faces a potential emergency, e.g. fire, flood. Dawson City EMO and emergency officials are constantly evaluating the fire situation and will continue to provide up to date information to keep residents and visitors informed and prepared. Wildland Fire Management continues to meet its daily objectives. The overall objectives are to ensure public safety; to minimize the impact of fire on communities and on the highway corridors; and to protect homes and buildings. In the event of an evacuation, residents will receive at least 24 hours notice and instructions. Fire Management considers the town core to be quite defensible. Should a fire encroach on the town, firefighters and other emergency crews will remain in Dawson to protect the structures and your homes. An emergency operation centre will be active to assist in coordination of resources and support to emergency agencies.
