Visibility Improves Allowing Fires To Be Reassessed
Although smoke is still heavily covering much of Dawson, visibility has improved enough for some aircraft to fly again.
This morning visibility in the Dawson area is up to two and a half miles. Smoke may lift somewhat this afternoon.
This will allow the opportunity for fire officials to do updated assessments on a number of fires including some of the Old Crow fires that have grown in recent days. They will also try to reassess the Goldfields fires.
Around the territory with visibility improving, fire officials plan to reassess fires in the Whitehorse area, Mayo, Haines Junction and Beaver Creek.
Fire officials also plan to continue and increase patrol in areas of the Yukon where there has been lightning over the past 48 hours.

Advisories
The Robert Campbell Highway is open. For more information on highways, call highways and public works at 1-877-456-7623 or 867-667-3710.
Travelers are also advised to drive along the Klondike Highway between 4 a.m. and noon, as those are slow burning periods. Pilot cars are in place, if required.
Any residents in the Yukon concerned about smoke are encouraged to call their local nursing station or hospital. Smoke is now lifting in many areas of the Yukon.
Although the current fire ban has been modified for southern Yukon and the far north, Wildland Fire Management would like to remind people that burning fires only applies in commercial and government campgrounds. The forest floor is drier than it appears. Also, smoke from fires outside of commercial and government campgrounds is often reported, and consequently fire crews must go out and investigate.
There have been 197 fires in the Yukon burning over 1,250, 000 hectares of forest. There are currently 166 active fires.
