Thirteen New Fires Over Weekend
It was a fairly busy weekend for fire crews across the territory with 13 new fires.
Saturday was the busiest day as fire crews fought five of these fires successfully. The remainder of the fires were in Wildland Fire Management's (WFM's) wilderness zone.
Fires in the Dawson Goldfields all received precipitation allowing crews to make good progress on the ground. Skies were mostly clear and sunny over the weekend with some showers on Saturday.

Advisories
Although the current fire ban has been modified for southern Yukon and the far north, Wildland Fire Management would like to remind people that burning fires only applies in commercial and government campgrounds. The forest floor is drier than it appears. Also, smoke from fires outside of commercial and government campgrounds is often reported, and consequently fire crews must go out and investigate.
There have been 229 fires in the Yukon burning over 1,300,000 hectares of forest.
