Four New Fires In The Watson Lake District

There have been four fires in the Watson Lake district in the past 24 hours.

Wildland Fire Management (WFM) actioned one of these fires with an initial attack crew. The human-caused fire was 0.01 hectares in WFM's full management zone by the Hyland River. The attack was successful and the fire should be declared out later today.

The other fires are all in WFM's wilderness zone and will continue to be regularly monitored. There are no values at risk by these fires.

In other news, rain fell on much of the Goldfields Complex Tuesday afternoon, forcing several crews to pull out of areas due to slippery road conditions. As much as 20 mm of rain was reported in some areas.

A helicopter patrolled fires in the Dawson area and showed all fires to be quiet throughout.

Fire Officials are conducting regular patrols around the territory day to investigate lightning strikes, calls from the public and to monitor fires.

New Fires-Past 24 Hours
Hyland River WL#36 0.01 hectares Fire actioned.
Siwash Creek WL#37 8 hectares Fire is in a wilderness zone.
Lootz Creek WL#38 1 hectare Fire is in a wilderness zone.
Lootz Creek#2 WL#39 85 hectares Fire is in a wilderness zone.
Yukon Fires Being Actioned
Goldfields Complex DA #9,10, 21,30, 37 Over 143,000 hectares French Gulch (21): Crews continued to work on remaining hot spots. There was little activity on this fire. Dempster (30): Crews have finished mopping up hot spots on the south flank of the fire. All sprinklers have been removed from values on this fire. The Rapid Fire Initial Attack crew from Alberta is also demobilizing and heading home. Some hot spots were detected along the Dempster Highway portion of the fire and will be worked on today. Dominion (10): Aerial scanning picked up hot spots on the north end of the fire which will be checked out by crews today. Fire received precipitation. Haystack (09): Fire received four hours of steady rain yesterday. Crews continue to work on hot spots in the southeast corner.
Tay River RR#26 20 hectares There was no activity on the perimeter of this fire when scanned yesterday. There continues to be a few smokes at the center.
West Side of Harrison Lake MA#30 25 hectares Crews are doing mop-up and patrol.
Stewart Lake WL#04 9,000 hectares Crews are meeting objectives on fire.

Advisories

Effective immediately, campfires for cooking and warming are permitted throughout Yukon. Permits are required for any other fires, such as for burning brush and debris.
