Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #63 July 30, 2004 - 12:30 PM Fire Season Reaching Normal The 2004 fire season is one of the most active seasons the Yukon has on record, and although fire season is not over, wildfire operations are returning to normal. Cooler temperatures and showers over much of the Yukon have moderated fire activity and the number of resources are being reduced. Wildland Fire Management (WFM) currently has approximately 175 personnel working on fires in the Yukon, compared to 348 personnel a couple of weeks ago. While some of the Yukon's fires are beginning to undergo a wrap-up status, fire officials are not letting their guards down for what the coming month of August may bring. In past years there have been rapid flare-ups as late at mid-August. Fire behavior can change rapidly given the right conditions, and WFM will be prepared for increased fire activity. Advisories Effective immediately, campfires for cooking and warming are permitted throughout Yukon. Permits are required for any other fires, such as for burning brush and debris. Permits will be issued only if conditions allow. For more information please contact Yukon Wildland Fire Management at 867-456-3845. Klondike fire information is now available at the Klondike Fire Zone at 867-993-5992, or by calling 867-456-3956, or toll free 1-800-826-4750. There have been 240 fires in the Yukon burning close to 1,400, 000 hectares of forest. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
