One New Fire In Past 24 Hours

A lightning-caused fire was reported yesterday and found to be burning 13 hectares in the Carmacks district.

The fire, Carmacks #28, is by Clair Lake in Wildland Fire Management's (WFM's) strategic zone, an area of third priority in terms of fire suppression, generally with a moderate density of human values. There are no values at risk on from this fire.

Carmacks #28 is in the vicinity of the Chain Lakes fire and will continue to be monitored by WFM.

Wildland fires in the Yukon continue to be active as hot and dry conditions persist. Numerous fires throughout the territory have been generating a lot of smoke. They will continue to burn until significant amounts of precipitation are received. The smoke may continue to be present as the weather forecast predicts warm, dry weather in the coming days.

Yukoners are also reminded that burning permits are required for the burning of brush and debris and will only be issued if conditions allow. Please contact your local district office for burning restrictions.
