Wildland Fire Management Stresses Caution With Campfires This Weekend

With continuing warm, dry conditions fire danger indicies are continuing to rise. There is still a risk of new fires and existing fires may become active once again.

Wildland Fire Management (WFM) is advising people traveling throughout the territory that they may see smoke from increased fire activity from existing fires. With the holiday weekend approaching, WFM is also asking the public to be extra cautious with campfires and to ensure that they are completely extinguished.

As a result of the weather forecast, WFM is increasing preparedness levels. Patrolling of fires will be on the increase to monitor fire activity and also look for any new fires.

Yukoners are also reminded that burning permits are required for the burning of brush and debris and will only be issued if conditions allow, and it is asked that persons contact their local district office for burning restrictions before burning.
