Whitehorse Crews Fight Mt. Sumanik Fire

A 1 hectare fire was actioned on Mt Sumanik yesterday afternoon. Air tankers dropped several loads of retardant on the fire and fire fighters and a helicopter continued working on the fire last evening. The fire is under control, and fire fighters will continue work on the fire today with helicopter support. This fire is thought to be a holdover lightning fire.

The Primrose River fire has been active in recent and is causing smoke to drift into the Whitehorse area. WFM is monitoring its activity closely.

Elsewhere, another fire was reported in the Carmacks District yesterday near Montague. It was a spot fire and was actioned by fire crews.

Advisories

WFM is asking the public to be extra cautious with campfires and to ensure that they are completely extinguished. Campfires must never be left unattended.

Yukoners are also reminded that burning permits are required for the burning of brush and debris and will only be issued if conditions allow, and it is asked that persons contact their local district office for burning restrictions before burning.
