Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #8 June 04, 2008 - 12:00PM Wildland and Volunteer Firefighters Quickly Contain Carmacks Fire A 0.1 hectare wildfire, believed to be human-caused, in the Carmacks district is now contained after quick response by both Wildland and volunteer firefighters. Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday evening, the Carmacks fire district office was notified by an off-duty Wildland Fire Management employee of smoke coming from the Westside of Carmacks near the new subdivision. After confirming the presence of fire, 6 wildland firefighters immediately responded. The Carmacks volunteer fire department also provided added support as the fire was about 200 meters from the nearest residences. “We were lucky the winds had dropped down since that afternoon, or the situation could have been much worse” said Donovan. “Both wildland and volunteer firefighters are to be commended for their quick work containing this fire.” Fire officials wish to thank the public for their continued cooperation in reporting wildfires in the territory. If you see a wildfire please report it immediately to 1-888-798 FIRE (3473). The public is reminded that a burning permit is required to burn grass, brush or debris in the territory between April 1 and September 30. Permits will be suspended when the fire danger rating is above the low level. There have now been 15 fires in the territory this season burning approximately seven hectares as a result. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
