Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #9 May 30, 2007 - 10:05 AM Second Fire of Season Reported in Dawson Firefighters are working to extinguish a ten-hectare fire burning in the Dawson City fire district near the Indian River, approximately 40 kilometres east of Dawson. The human-caused fire was first reported Tuesday afternoon at approximately 2 PM and a three-person crew was immediately deployed. Today, two crews will be on site working to keep the fire contained and fire officials are optimistic the fire will be under control later this afternoon. Currently no values are at risk as a result of the fire. Meanwhile, crews continue to make good progress on the fire burning near the Kusawa Lake Road, initially reported Sunday night. On Tuesday the fire was scanned and firefighters found the majority of the perimeter to be inactive and cool. Today, two crews (nine firefighters) and one tender will continue work on the fire, patrolling for hot spots and working toward 100 per cent extinguishment. The Kusawa Lake Road remains open, however the public is asked to be cautious of crews working near the road. With the recent activity there have now been 11 fires in the territory all of which have been human-caused.
