Air tankers actioning the Orchay Lake fire were than deployed to that 0.1 hectare fire and today firefighters will continue suppression efforts. The third fire reported Tuesday is burning in a remote area of the Ross River district near the Pelly River. It is estimated to be 30 hectares in size and because no values are currently threatened it is not presently being actioned. Officials will be observing the fire throughout the day. “With the forecast lightning we were prepared for increased activity in the Ross River area,” said Duty Officer Michael Templeton. “By relocating some of our resources we were able to both detect and quickly action these incidents.” With this most recent fire there have now been 16 fires in the territory, burning more than 3000 hectares of forest. The public is reminded that all burning permits are suspended in parts of the territory where the fire danger rating is moderate, high or extreme. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
