Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #22 June 29, 2007 - 10:25 AM Two New Fires Reported Last Night The Mayo and Dawson districts both reported new fires on Thursday. Crews responded to a 1.9 hectare fire in the Mayo district last night. MA-11-07 is burning 20 kilometres west of Mayo near Minto Lake. Five initial attack crews from B.C. and the Yukon actioned the fire, along with two air tanker groups from Dawson. The crews worked the fire until 11 PM last night and had the fire 80% contained. Crews will be returning to the fire today. A fire was also reported in the Dawson district last night, 80 kilometres west of Dawson near the Canada-U.S. border. The fire will be investigated later today. Meanwhile, with the recent precipitation and the fire danger rating currently low in the Teslin and Whitehorse area, firefighting crews from both districts are being briefed on sandbagging techniques should the Emergency Measures Organization require additional flood support. Although the forecast is calling for precipitation and cooler temperatures, the public is asked to be cautious with campfires and other burning this Canada Day weekend. Never leave your campfire unattended and when putting out your fire, be sure to douse the site thoroughly until the ashes are cold to the touch With this most recent activity, there have now been 59 fires in the territory this season. The public is reminded to be cautious with any burning and report any wildfires to 1-888-798-FIRE. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
