Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #23 July 06, 2007 - 10:15 AM Crew Responds to Small Fire in Dawson A three-person initial attack fire crew was quick to contain a small fire reported Thursday afternoon at about 2:30 p.m in the Dawson district. The 0.3 hectare fire, believed to be lightning-caused, is located approximately 35 kilometres south of Dawson City near the Indian River and is not threatening any values at this time. Upon notification of the fire three firefighters were immediately dispatched and the fire was quickly contained. Today the crew will return to the site and it is expected the fire will be completely extinguished by this afternoon. “Although wet in much of the territory the conditions are still very dry in the Dawson area right now,” said Zone Protection Officer Dan Baikie. “Campfires can still become a serious problem if burning is not done responsibly, so we’re encouraging the public to be smart.” This recent fire is the 19th of the season in the Dawson district and the 62nd overall in the territory this season. Currently the danger rating across the territory is low to moderate, however the public is reminded to be cautious with any burning and report any wildfires to 1-888-798-FIRE. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
