Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #25 July 09, 2007 - 3:55 PM Site Protection Plan in Place A Site Protection Plan has been developed to protect values that may be threatened as a result of a wildfire burning in the Old Crow fire district. The Eagle River Fire (OC-3) is approximately 2000 hectares in size and burning 190 kilometres south-east of Old Crow near the Eagle River. The fire is also burning an estimated eight kilometres from Eagle Plains Lodge and that is why the Site Protection Plan was established. Sprinkler Kits have also been set up around a Northwestel tower located in a remote area of Old Crow, as a wildfire (OC-4), that began burning on the weekend is now an estimated 550 metres from the tower. OC-4 is located approximately 210 kilometres southeast of Old Crow and is currently about two hectares in size. “Essentially what we have done is set up sprinklers around the tower to provide extra protection if the fire were to pose a serious threat,” said Duty Officer Michael Templeton. “Northwestel has been notified of the current situation and are aware of our efforts.” Motorists travelling along the Dempster Highway are advised that they may encounter heavy smoke and fire activity as a result of the recent fires in the Old Crow district. Officials are encouraging the public to be patient and vigilant of the fire activity. There have been 68 fires in the territory this season burning more than 30,000 hectares of forest. The public is asked to be cautious while burning and report any wildfires they notice to 1-888-798-FIRE. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
