Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #27 July 11, 2007 - 10:35 AM Fire Activity Slows on Eagle River Fire Fire officials are reporting little growth on the Eagle River fire (OC-3), burning approximately 5 kilometres from the Eagle Plains Lodge on the Dempster Highway. The lightning-caused fire, first detected Thursday night, remains active but has not moved closer to the lodge or crossed the Eagle River. Officials will continue to monitor the fire closely today and sprinkler kits will remain in place around the lodge as a precautionary measure. “The conditions on the highway are also improving so that’s very encouraging,” said Duty Officer Lorne Harris. “There were no closures on the highway yesterday and the smoke has dissipated. The public is still asked to be patient and aware of the fire activity and the potential smokey conditions as a result of the recent fires in the area.” Good progress is also being reported on the lightning-caused fire (OC-4), burning near a Northwestel Tower in a remote wilderness area 210 kilometres southeast of Old Crow. Meanwhile the 21st fire of the season in the Dawson fire district was detected Tuesday afternoon near the South Tatonduk River. Reported by the Alaska Forest Service, the fire is an estimated 20 hectares and is burning in a remote wilderness area approximately 125 kilometres west of Dawson and no values are currently at risk. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
