Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #7 June 09, 2006 - 2:15 PM Burning Permits Suspended As per the conditions of burning permits in the Yukon, permit holders are advised that burning permits are suspended immediately throughout the Yukon Territory until further notice. This is due to extreme fire hazard, gusty winds locally and extended forecasts for continued hot and dry conditions. No new permits will be issued under current conditions. Wildland Fire Management is asking Yukoners and highway travelers to use extreme caution with fire. The current warm, dry conditions mean that fires can ignite and spread very quickly. Be sure that cooking and warming fires are small, and never ignited in windy conditions. When making a campfire, use a proper firepit or make a ring of rocks at least 3 metres from shrubs, structures and other flammable materials; keep your fire under control and attended at all times; keep water and a shovel nearby; make sure your fire is completely extinguished. Wildland Fire Management thanks the public for their cooperation. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
