Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #33 July 31, 2006 - 9:55 AM Lightning Sparks Three Fires Over Weekend Old Crow reported its third fire of the season five km east of Eagle Plains on Sunday. The DC6 out of Dawson dropped some retardant on the lightning-caused fire, which is .25 hectares, and will be monitored. A .2 hectare fire was reported near Watson Creek in the Mayo District yesterday. Two fire crews worked on the fire which was also caused by lightning. Fire crews worked overnight on the fire and will continue to work today. The Firecat airtanker group launched out of Whitehorse last night to fight a one hectare lightning-caused fire near the Liard River in the Watson Lake District. Two fire crews worked on the fire with helicopter support, and will continue working on the fire today. Also, over the weekend, members of the public extinguished a campfire on Lake Laberge. A crew out of Whitehorse will be going out to assess it today. Meanwhile, the forest fire burning near Felsenmer Ridge in the Beaver Creek District received some precipitation over the weekend and as a result fire activity is low. The forecast is calling for cooler, showery conditions. Crews are continuing to patrol the fire and work on the southwest perimeter, which is approximately 13 km northeast of the community. There are four fire crews still working on the fire. The fire danger is currently low to moderate, with the exception of Carmacks which is extreme. There have been 72 fires this year, burning a total of 100, 322 hectares.
