Current Fire Danger Ratings Wildfire Bulletin #36 August 17, 2006 - 9:30 AM Yukon Crews Exported to United States Four Yukon firefighters are traveling to the United States to help with the fire situation there. They will be flying to Saskatoon today where they will be meeting up with other Canadian firefighters and then flying to Boisie, Idaho where they will be briefed. From there they will be dispatched to one of the major fires burning in the country. Two of the firefighters will be working as strike team leaders, one as a division supervisor and the other as a helicopter manager. They are expected to be in the U.S. for at least two weeks. The U.S. made the request for resources yesterday through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, or CIFFC. Through mutual aid sharing agreements (MARS) we can assist other agencies and request help when needed. Canada has a longstanding relationship with the national interagency fire centre in the U.S. The United States is already receiving aid from Australia and New Zealand. The fire danger rating is currently low throughout the territory. With the long weekend coming up, Wildland Fire Management would like to remind the public to be careful with campfires. Keep them small and don’t let them get out of control. There have been a total of 75 fires this year, burning a total of 106,128 hectares. Wildland Fire Management would like to thank the public for continuing to report wildfires. -30- For Yukon Wildfire updates, call 1-800-826-4750 Current Fire Danger Ratings |
