Maisy Mae Fire Wraps Up

Wildland Fire Management (WFM) fire crews will be demobilized from the Maisy Mae fire in the Dawson area today.

The fire, approximately 23 hectares in size, started as the result of a holdover fire from last years Goldfields Complex.  It was spotted on May 10 by a fixed-wing aircraft.  The fire is now under control and WFM will continue to monitor its activity very closely.

Alaska Division of Forestry is reporting continuing dry conditions as fire fighters battle the 600 hectare Island Lake blaze burning less than 16 kilometers from U.S Customs and Border Protection office.  Alaska fire officials say that the fire is not a threat to any structures at this time.

WFM reminds those who are getting burning permits, as well as those already holding them, to continue to follow burning permit guidelines.  For more information please call your local Wildland Fire Management.

There have been ten fires this season burning 25.27 hectares.
