Type 1 Fitness Standards for Wildland Firefighters
In 2010 Yukon’s Wildland Fire Management along with all other Wildfire Agencies across the country are adopting the new Physical Fitness Standards for Type 1 - Wildland Fire Fighters (WFX-FIT).
Wildland firefighters will be required to perform and maintain a new WFX – FIT. Applicants must be physically fit and be prepared to pass the WFX-Fit test and meet a national exchange standard time of 14:30 on this test.
Successful candidates must spend significant time prior to their employment preparing for the fitness testing and must expect to be tested during the first week of employment. Failure to meet the fitness standards will result in termination of the offer of employment.

All candidates must complete a physical activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) and sign an informed consent document prior to completing the WFX-Fit test. Candidates must also complete a medical clearance screening upon commencement of employment.
