Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)

Critical Incident Stress Management

A “critical incident” is a bad call. It’s the call that shakes you. It’s the call that haunts you.

Responses to a critical incident are personal. An event that affects you might not affect your partner.  Remember that stress reactions to a bad call are normal and expected.

Yukon government takes the health of our first responders seriously.

Most stress reactions will pass with time. However, you don’t have to sit by and wait to feel better. There are ways Protective Services can help you cope, process your emotions and feel like yourself again.

Activities to help you prevent, deal with, and recover from stress reactions in a healthy way are called critical incident stress management (CISM). This site will help you understand the options and tools available to manage critical incident stress.

Yukon’s Protective Services employees and volunteers can access CISM 24-hour emergency counselling at 1-844-880-9142.
