Fire Fighter Training

All volunteer fire departments are required to conduct regular training programs for their fire fighters.

Through the use of in-house and volunteer instructors, the Fire Marshal's Office works with fire departments to enhance the level of training provided to volunteer fire fighters.

In particular, the Fire Marshal's Office:

  • ensures that all Yukon volunteer fire fighters are trained to an acceptable national level in basic firefighting;
  • coordinates provision of specialized courses for firefighters (and other professionals) such as pre-fire planning, fire ground management, dangerous goods, vehicle extrication and fire investigation;
  • administers the Volunteer Fire Service Instructor Program using volunteer instructors to augment the resources of the Fire Marshal's Office to conduct fire service training sessions throughout Yukon;
  • conducts professional development workshops for Yukon fire fighters in conjunction with the Association of Yukon Fire Chiefs' annual meeting.
