FireSmart

The FireSmart funding program supports community safety by reducing the threat of wild fires. It supports job creation by developing and using local resources and skills.

Applications can be submitted between January 1 and April 15 of each year.

Eligibility
First Nations, municipal governments, registered non-profit organizations in good standing, community associations and school councils can apply for FireSmart funding for greenbelts and undeveloped natural growth areas.
Private property or lands associated with private use and enjoyment are not eligible.

Process
1. Contact the Regional Protection Manager closest to your community to discuss the area you propose treating and what will be protected.

2. Fill out a FireSmart Project Application  (121 KB).

3. Submit the complete and signed application form and map of the proposed treatment area to the Regional Protection Manager.

Applicants will be notified in August if the project will receive funding. Projects begin once funding agreements are in place.
