Volunteer with the Yukon Fire Service

With a stepped approach to training, you can find the level of firefighting and fitness that match your skills and ensure your safety.

The Fire Marshal’s Office oversees volunteer fire departments in Beaver Creek, Burwash Landing, Carcross, Golden Horn, Hootalinqua, Ibex Valley, Keno City, Klondike Valley, Marsh Lake, Mendenhall, Mt. Lorne, Old Crow, Pelly Crossing, Ross River, Tagish and Upper Liard. To volunteer for other departments, please contact your municipality.

Volunteers with the Fire Marshal’s Office must:

  • be 18 years of age or older (or have parental permission for the Fire Explorer program)
  • receive medical clearance from a health professional (fee reimbursed)
  • pass a vulnerable sector record check through the RCMP (fee waived for volunteers)
  • attend weeknight training sessions twice a month and meet minimum training curriculum requirements

Volunteers receive an honorarium for each training session and call out, reimbursement for medicals, driver’s licence requirements and first aid training, and a tax credit for 200 hours of service annually. Personal protective equipment is provided.
