Volunteering

Volunteerism is an important way to contribute to the health and safety of your community. It’s also a great way to build your resume and get experience that could lead to a career. Volunteering could even put some money in your pocket.

Emergency Medical Services
Volunteers provide pre-hospital care and transportation of the sick and injured.
SOMET (Special Operations Medical Extrication Team)
Volunteers train together in a variety of specialized skills to be able to provide safe, efficient and coordinated medical extrication.
Yukon Amateur Radio Association
Licensed radio operators provide an emergency communication network.
Yukon Fire Service
Volunteers provide fire prevention and suppression activities.
Yukon Region Civil Air Search and Rescue Association
Volunteers provide air search support services to the RCMP.
Yukon Search and Rescue Association
Volunteers support the RCMP in conducting ground and inland water search and rescue efforts for lost or missing persons.

An intensive one-week program for Yukon women interested in pursuing a career in the fire service.

Employment

Employment opportunities are posted in the Yukon government Career Centre.

Wildland Fire Management hires seasonal initial attack crews.
Emergency Medical Services employs primary care paramedics and higher levels in Whitehorse, Watson Lake and Dawson City. Medevac crews, based in Whitehorse, employ critical care paramedics and advanced care paramedics.
